Review the attached readiness reports and mission profiles for several new starship variants launched earlier this year. Starships have never been more modular, and to bring the Empire’s might to bear we must be willing to adapt our hardware as well as our tactics. This is, of course, a long-standing tradition in Starfleet, but is especially relevant now as we utilize advancements in rapid prototyping, decalithium power systems, and // confiscated technologies from Imperial conquests. When we do not have an appropriate weapon to accomplish the mission, // we must prioritize the development of new class variants based on existing or planned construction to meet these needs quickly and efficiently. To meet those needs we must be creative // and maximize the yield from our efforts by matching the platform to the mission. In the wake of years of conflict and tragedy, we see the demands on Starfleet expand almost daily. While there is merit in pursuing generational leaps in technology, it would be foolish for us to simultaneously neglect incremental progress // and improved flexibility as we see more new construction come online. These starships rep// resent an essential step on the path to glory for the Terran Empire. Such materials enrich a fragrance, but they also weigh it down and make it opaque. Grand Soir, on the other hand, is in the dark register, generous in resins and balsams. The former is a bright orange blossom and amber theme. For his eponymous line he has interpreted a variety of genres, from citrus to woods, and this year he has added Petit Matin and Grand Soir to the collection. Having first studied ballet, Kurkdjian carries over the precision and grace of classical dance to his perfumery. ![]() On skin, it unfolds in soft layers, each as radiant as the one preceding it.Īnother perfumer I admire for his ability to render scents luminous is Francis Kurkdjian. It’s a complete vignette-an evening, the splash of waves, jasmine blossoms entangled in the hair, a banana leaf piled with sticky rice and mangoes, that famous Thai dessert, a salty kiss with an aftertaste of coconut cream. One of the recent creations by Becker is Kilian’s Moonlight in Heaven. Despite the conventional saying that too much knowledge kills the mystery, the experience made me appreciate both Becker’s craft and J’Adore’s lingering glow. Perfumery students learn the craft much like artists, by copying the work of the masters, and when I was trying to achieve the variegated radiance of J’Adore, its complexity and nuances mesmerized-and confounded-me. Another trendsetter is Becker’s Christian Dior J’Adore, a layer of flower notes as tightly woven as the millefiori ornaments of Murano glass. Her Tommy Girl contains a green tea accord so luminous that it seems fluorescent. Capturing this duality seems impossible, but perfumers are adept at creating illusions.Ĭalice Becker is one such creator, and her fragrances illustrate the idea of radiance. A radiant fragrance is not necessarily a strong smell-it follows the wearer at a few paces, but it’s neither heavy nor overpowering. ![]() The best way of understanding it is to envision a candle burning in a dark room, its glow lifting the dark shadows. Radiance in perfume is an elusive quality. By the time it gets anywhere resembling “good”-the second season’s fifth episode, and 11th overall, “Constable Polly”-it’s unclear whether it’s worth it to soldier on to the “end.” (If we limit ourselves to dark comedies starring Harry Potter alumni, the Daniel Radcliffe-led A Young Doctor’s Notebook clocks in at a better use of your time.) Plus, the late uptick in quality relies on the narrative work of the mediocre episodes that preceded it, as it initially follows everything that’s occurred in the season so far from a non-Daniel, non-Glennis perspective.Ĭreated and written by Nat Saunders and James Serafinowicz (with Matt Lipsey as director), Sick Note has a singular narrative and aesthetic vision, and it never once veers from that, no matter what. Unfortunately, Sick Note is wildly uneven, and not all that funny, which is especially disappointing given the talent both in front of and behind the camera. What follows is a comedy of errors surrounding that central lie and the tangled web it weaves-a web which also leads to the accidental almost-death, and then the intentional actual-death, of Daniel’s best friend, Ash (Tolu Ogunmefun), who it turns out was having an affair with Becca… which, in turn, leads to Officer Chris Hayward (Daniel Rigby) investigating the whole situation. ![]() When it turns out that he was misdiagnosed and will go on to live a long life, Daniel decides he can’t go back to his life before people thought he had cancer, and Glennis decides he can’t go back to being known as an incompetent doctor (by his colleagues) and incompetent man (by his wife Annette, played by Belinda Stewart-Wilson). And, funnily enough, everything about his life improves everyone around him-from his sadistic boss, Kenny West (Don Johnson), to his cold girlfriend, Becca (Pippa Bennett-Warner), who have both fired and dumped him (for good reason) early on-start to treat him much better. Iain Glennis (Nick Frost) diagnoses him with cancer. ![]() Sick Note is a dark comedy with a pretty solid premise: Perennial slacker Daniel (Rupert Grint) has a dead-end job and relationship, and then, on top of that, Dr. ![]() Of the 103 odes, 37 are Alcaic and 25 Sapphic (in addition to the “Carmen Saeculare”). The majority of the love poems are written in combinations of the five Asclepiadic meters, but the Aeolic forms Horace used most often were the four-line Alcaic and Sapphic stanzas. Because of Melpomene’s favor, the lush landscape around his Sabine farm “will make him famous for Aeolic song” (C.4.3:10-12). Fate has given him “a small domain and the fine breath of Greek song and a capacity to scorn the malicious crowd” (C.2.16:37-40). I shall be declared, where wild Aufidus thunders and Daunus poor in water has always ruled his rustic people, as one risen high from humble origin who was the first to spin the meters of Aeolic song into Italian verse” (C.3.30:6-14). In the last ode of the three books published in 23BC, he states that “Not all of me will die, but a mighty part will escape the death-goddess Libitina: I shall continue to grow ever fresh with fame of after time, so long as the Pontiff climbs the stairs of the Capitol with the silent Vestal. ![]() Horace took his greatest pride in the technical accomplishment of adapting the meters of Lesbos to Latin versification. While he professes himself the follower of Aeolic poetry, we find very little of Alcaeus’ spirit, content or emotional tone and none of Sappho’s in his odes. It was common for Roman poets to ground their claims to originality in what they perceived as the vastly superior art of Greece, since they believed it was possible for them to be original only in relation to other Roman poets, so Horace began by writing his “Iambi” in the manner of Archilochus and then his “Carmina” in the manner of ancient Lesbos, by which he really means Alcaeus. As a matter of fact, all but two of the metrical combinations in Horace’s “Iambi” are attested in Archilochus, and the two missing systems might be attested if we had more of his poetry (Mankin, 15-16). Already in the “Iambi” he had used meters drawn from the poetry of Archilochus of Paros, a point underscored in E.1.19:23-25 where he claims that he “first displayed Parian iambi to Latium, following the meters and spirit of Archilochus, but not the subject matter or words that harried Lycambes.” Archilochus has many other meters besides iambic in his poetry, but the term came to be used of any “blame poetry” with a greater or lesser degree of hostility. ![]() Horace’s own statements about the models for his odes are unequivocal: he portrays himself as a poetic craftsman working in the tradition of Greek lyric poetry as it was practiced about 600BC on the island of Lesbos by the Greek poets Alcaeus and Sappho (C.1.1:34, 1.26:9-12, 1.32:5, 3.30:13-14, 4.3.11-12, 4.6:35). ![]() ![]() The streaming capabilities are fast and simple to use. You can connect it to almost any streaming device, including your tablet, laptop, or iPhone, and immediately stream movies and TV, onto your projector. Where the MP150W really succeeds is in streaming. This might be a downside for some, but most people plugin their projectors, so it won’t be an issue. Battery Lifeīattery life is only two hours, so while, with its small size and weight, you can certainly take the MP150 anywhere, you’d better take it somewhere with a mains supply. Some customers considering this projector might have noticed that it’s only 200 lumens, but the IntelliBright Technology, is there to do the job of lumens, so don’t be put off. With the MP150W, you’ll see an immediate reaction, by the projector, which will adjust itself accordingly. With other projectors, you can be watching the movie, and the sun comes out, obscuring the picture. What this means is that the MP150W will respond to the light in the room, by raising or lowering brightness, to give you the best picture at any given time. The image quality here is further enhanced by IntelliBright technology. The performance in terms of clarity for office presentations is very high too, so the Miroir Projector MP150W will show text and pictures clearly. The good news is, unless your an expert in pixel performance, the difference between picture clarity on the MP150W, and full HD 1080p, will not be noticeable. Here’s the catch Because your native resolution is 720p on the MP150W, in practice pictures will reach a standard, just below 1080p quality. So how do you view in 1080p? Well, If you have a device like a Blu-ray player, or an HD games console, that can send a 1080p signal, you can turn up the resolution on the Miroir HD Projector MP150W, to max 1080p and watch in full HD. 720p HD is the most important figure because it’s what you’ll see movies, games, and office presentations in, straight out of the box. You have a native resolution of 720p, with a maximum resolution of 1080p, and as the appearance of two resolutions in the specifications often confuses customers, I’ll take you through what that means. You have an instant-on switch, which will take you through to a menu system, and from there, just follow the instructions for a completion time in under 5 minutes. ![]() The set-up, I’m pleased to report, is very easy. Neither is there a mention of a light in the manual so I assume the driver has to remember when cruise control is engaged.Ī colleague who regularly uses cruise control in other makes of car reports that 'cruise engaged' is often NOT accompanied by an indicator you simply have to rely upon your memory. There is no light on the end of the stalk, at least nothing lights up when I operate the stalk. There is no mention in my manual of a Speed Limiter. I have no idea whether there was a manual option. Incidentally, my C230 Kompressor Sport is an automatic. Your description of the cruise control operation most closely matches that described in my manual, except for the 1km/h increments of which there is no mention. It is therefore important I fully understand its operation before using it in earnest. There appear to be situations where its use could cause an accident. I get the feeling that you have to be very careful when and where you use cruise control. My thanks to you all for your contributions. It doesn't lose more than 1mph on a motorway hill, nor gain 1mph going downhill.Ĭan't convince my wife to use it though, ever ! I've had three cars with cruise and the Merc is the most accurate and safest. (This can be quite scary if you have lost a lot of speed after disengaging as the amount of throttle applied is proportional to the lost speed and can cause kickdown). Having disengaged cruise and reduced speed, flicking the stalk towards you at a speed of more than 25mph causes the memorised speed to be obtained and held. Whilst in cruise, pushing the stalk away or dabbing the brakes disengages the cruise control but memorises the last held speed. Whilst in cruise, holding the stalk down cuts the throttle and the speed at which you release the stalk becomes the new cruise speed.ĥ. Whilst in cruise, holding the stalk up will apply quite a lot of extra throttle and the speed at which you release the stalk becomes the new cruise speed.Ĥ. Whilst in cruise, flicking the stalk up or down will increase or decrease the held speed by 1 km/h.ģ. Manually reach your cruise speed and flick the stalk up or down to hold that speed.Ģ. If it is the same as my 2000 C220 CDi, then it works like this :ġ. Maybe I haven't grasped how the control is supposed to work. This seems logical but that's not what the narrative describes. Maybe it's the translation of German into English that's the problem.ĭoes moving this stalk control up increase road speed and does momentarily flipping this control up program the speed reached into the cruise computer?Ĭonversely, does moving the control down decrease road speed and does momentarily flipping this control down program the speed reached into the cruise computer?ĭoes moving the control backwards deactivate the cruise control?Īnd does moving the control forwards resumes control at the programmed speed? There is no 'in' or 'out' operation to the stalk.Ĭall me thick but I don't believe the narrative describing the operation of the control alongside the picture of the stalk is correct. This control has four movement: up, down, forwards (towards driver) and backward (away from driver). On page 31 on my M-B Driving Owners Manual C-class is depicted the lefthand stalk used to provide cruise control. I, too, am new to automatics and the C230 Kompressor Sport has cruise control which I occassionally select by mistake when searching for the other lefthand stalk control. ![]() I assume the operation is not that dissimilar to the C180 of the same year.
